Deep Tissue Massage
Wherever you carry your tension, a deep tissue massage will melt those knots and knead your muscles until they quiver with “ahhhhh.”
What Is a Deep Tissue Massage?
Whether it’s everyday stress or an injury that’s got your muscles tied up in knots, nothing soothes quite like a deep tissue massage. Swedish massage, the most common variety, gently releases and relaxes the top layer of muscles. But deep tissue massage reaches those aching problem areas that need a bit more persuasion to relax.
Straightaway, a deep tissue massage begins with your therapist warming your muscles with gentle kneading and long, fluid strokes. Further, just as your muscles begin to respond and relax, your therapist will start using more pressure, zeroing in on stubborn knots. Even the most stubborn knot will eventually yield to this kind of warm, steady, soothing pressure. You can almost feel the knot “give up” its fight and melt away.
For this reason, you may feel a bit of soreness for a day or two after your deep tissue massage appointment. Drinking plenty of water after your session can help additionally, some clients enjoy the application of a cold pack (always wrap yours in a towel) or a heating pad as well.
If you suffer from any of the following conditions, you should consult your doctor before having a deep tissue massage:
- If you’re pregnant
- If you have any bleeding disorder
- If you’re undergoing treatment for cancer
- If you are taking blood thinners
Deep tissue massage can help ease muscular dysfunction, reduce pain, and restore your body’s overall functionality and mobility. Plus, it just feels so good.
